History of APBC

Anchor Point Baptist Church was established in August of 1964 by Verne Kirby, a missionary with Baptist Mid-Missions. Just prior to that, a Conservative Baptist Missionary (name unknown) had started Calvary Baptist Church in Ninilchik (20 miles north of Anchor Point on the Sterling Highway), and at the request of some Anchor Pointers had helped to establish a Bible study / church plant in Anchor Point. Verne Kirby came to lead that work as its first missionary-pastor and formally establish the church. In the sixty-plus years since, the church has been pastored by Dick Marsh, Paul Weimer, Chuck Reeves, Virgil Redmond, Ted Perry (Oct. 1978-April 1983), Ken Van Loon (April 1983-1990), Jack Johnston (1990-94), John Judson (1994-97), Dick Goodwin (1997-2005?, passed away from brain tumor while pastor), Jim Haning (2010-21), and Jonathan Hamilton (June 2021-Present).
